Re: 1978

I remember the summer of '76 being a scorcher and the summer of '77 being fucking wet (memories of shoes caked in inches of mud after summer holiday walks on the Isle of Wight) but I'm buggered if I can remember anything of note about 1978.
Could probably check what albums were released that year - but then they'd just be ones I got into at a later date.
I guess I probably had permanently scabby knees in 1978 from playing football in playgrounds with proper, manly, hard surfaces. But that's about it.

I was 8.
Brooking and Keegan for England but failing to qualify for the World Cup. World Cup was excellent despite us not being involved... seemed to be loads of 30 yrd goals scored, especially by the Dutch.
I think 1978 was the year the Jocks ripped up Wembley? I remember watching that on tv very clearly.
Late 70's was a nice simple time (for an 8 yo)!

I passed my finals and became a chartered accountant. The pass rate was 19.4% and caused a big stir in the profession as it became clear that there were plenty of people who'd invested five years of their lives studying but weren't realistically ever going to pass.
They subsequently made the first parts of the exam process more difficult.
Obviously, none of that bothered yours truly.

Re: 1978

We were mathematically relegated on the last day of the 77-78 season in a 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool. The feeling walking down Green Street after the match was one of utter desolation and numbness.
However, a lot of the dead wood was sold on during that summer (mainly to Orient and Norwich) and we started off anew in the old Second Division later that August. Unlike nowadays, most of our best first teamers stayed with us and we slowly and gradually rebuilt over the next two to three years.

Started work in the print up the city. The film Grease was up the pictures for what seemed like months. "Baker street" by Gerry rafferty was out. West Ham v Millwank at home with the OB helicopter circling above.
(And loads of trouble at millwank v ipswich cup game (typical, against no-marks. think the den got shut down). And think the carrot crunchers won 1-6. Haha.

...changed my life.
Went to my first gig as spotty fourteen year old (The Ramones). From that moment I wanted to be a rock star - OK I failed but did have some fun trying.
